Notwithstanding, since calligraphy, as an art, is meant to convey a message and different considerations must be respected, design plays a major role in this regard. Persian calligraphy, as a systematic writing system, has a rich potential to represent innovative aspects of design process. Accordingly, the present research aimed to discover modern aspects in this authentic traditional art. The research problem addressed here is discovering the creative aspects of calligraphy interacting with each other, namely the design of movements of the letters and the design of a measurement unit in calligraphy. The extent to which these two aspects can be defined by the design process has been dealt with in this study. In this respect, two works are particularly noteworthy: The book entitled Typography, by Farshi Mesghali (2011) deals with the importance of the Persian calligraphic dot to measure the dimensions of the letters in Persian calligraphy.
