The Place of the Sky in Persian Miniatures from the Beginning until the Tenth (Hijri) Century

Abstract

 
The sky has always had a special place in Persian religious and mythical be-liefs. It has been interpreted as a representation of holiness and refinement. This study aimed to examine the place as well as the significance of the sky in Persian miniatures. From this perspective, in Persian miniatures with mythical content, the role of the sky to transfer meaning has been the especial focus. Interestingly, the form of the sky has been represented differently in different eras of Persian miniatures. As such, the formal and symbolic aspects of the sky in comparison with those of other heavenly elements such as the sky, stars and clouds have been discussed. The results, analyzed descriptively, indicated that the formal aspects of the sky in Persian miniatures have undergone changes in different eras in terms of the physical space dedicated to it, vision angle as well as the proportions con-sidered with respect to other elements present in the picture. As an illustration, the sky-related elements like the clouds, which were designed, in terms of formal appearance, by strict guidelines in earlier eras, have been represented more elas-tically and freely in subsequent eras. More importantly, from Timurid era on, the symbolic content of the sky has been more in focus.

آسمـان همواره جایــگاه ویـژه‌ای در باورهای کهــن و دینـی ایـران داشتـه و تجلـی قــداسـت و پاکــی بوده است. ایــن مقالـه بر آن است تا نشان دهد این جایـگاه تا چـه اندازه در نـگارگـری ایرانــی متجلـی شده و توانسته است نقـش معنـایـی ایفـا کنـد. یا با توجه به موضوع داستــان نـگاره‌ها به کمک بیـان معنا آید. همچنیـن شکل آسمـان در دوره‌های مختلـف دستخـوش چــه تغییراتـی شـده است.
در این مقاله سعی شده نقش آسمـان از نظر ساختاری و معنایـی بررسی شود و تفاوت‌ها و تشابهات نمایش آسمان و عناصر مرتبط با آن همچون ستـاره، خورشیـد و ابر در دوره‌های مختلف نـگارگری مطالعه گردد. نتـایـج این تحقیق که به روش توصیفی- تحلیلی بدست آمده نشان دهنده این مطلب است که نمایش آسمان در دوره‌های مختلف نگارگری از نظر ساختاری تفاوت‌هایی داشته است؛ این تفاوت ها در مقدار فضایی که به خود اختصاص داده، و زاویه دید و میزان هماهنگی با دیگر اجزاء موجود در نگاره مشهود است. که عناصر مرتبط با آسمان مانند شکل ابرها در ابتدا بر اساس قوانین خاص و خشکی طراحی شده‌اند در حالی که در دوره‌های بعدی انعطاف و حرکت بیشتری در کارها دیده می‌شود. مسأله مهم‌تر این که از دوره تیموری به بعد نقش آسمان از نظر معنایی نیز پر رنگ‌تر شده است.
