The Role of Social Changes in Developing Landscape Painting in the 17th Century Netherlands

Abstract

One of the issues which helps painters have a better understanding of history of art, is the history of how the artistic genres formed. In this regard, the content of a given genre and the historical setting in which it was started to form (both in terms of time and place) paly major role. The idea of urbanism growth in the 17th century Netherlands led to a gap between man and nature. In order to alleviate the effect of this regretful situation, Dutch painters started to create landscape paintings, depending on the public taste, of pristine nature of the Netherlands. What did motivate the Dutch painters to create landscape paintings is the specific question the present study tries to answer it. In fact, this research aimed to give a better understanding of landscape painting of the 17th century Netherlands and the factors affected on it. In this connection, the book Landscape into Art by Kenneth Clark(1991) has exclusively addressed the historical course of landscape painting from the Renaissance to the late 19th century introducing prominent painters of this genre. Landscape and Western Art by Malcolm Andrews(2009) is another book dealing with different visions and pictures of nature catered since the Renaissance on.

توجه به عالم طبیعت به عنوان لذت، حظ زیبایی شناختی و کار هنری، تاریخچه ای دارد که تبار­شناسی آن ما را به فهم انواع تجارب تاریخی و انسانی انباشته شده در مفاهیم طبیعت و منظره نزدیک می­ کند. در دوره باروک تنوع سبک­ ها وگرایشات به اوج خود رسید. آن­ها معمولاً یک مضمون را درطول دوره­ای خاص یا منطق ه­ای خاص ترجیح می­ دادند. یکی از این گرایشات منظره نگاری بود، که تا قبل از آن در نقاشی­ ها فقط در پس زمینه استفاده می­ شد، اما در سده هفدهم به صورت موضوع اصلی مورد توجه قرار گرفت. ژانر منظره در اروپا از تجربۀ طبیعت به­ عنوان یک عامل و ارزش فرهنگی برجسته، در جوامعی که به تدریج مدرن می ­شدند بیرون آمد. این مقاله توصیفی در باب منظره نگاری قرن هفدهم در هلند  و مطالعه  ه­ای در باب ارتباط میان"منظره" و "ارزش فرهنگی" است. مسئله این پژوهش چرائی توجه به منظره‌پردازی در هلند است. این­که چه چیزی سبب شد که هلندی­ ها با انگیزه­ای خاص به منظره نگاری به ­پردازند، سؤالی است که دراین پژوهش بدان پاسخ داده می‌شود؟ هدف این نوشتار شناخت بیشتر ژانر «منظره»در نقاشی است. در مجموع در این نوشتار، ژانر منظره­نگاری هلند از لحاظ محتوا و درون­ مایه تحلیل  می ­شود. شیوه تحقیق این مقاله کیفی بوده و روش جمع­ آوری اطلاعات از طریق مطالعات کتابخانه ­ای صورت پذیرفته است.
